Coxing

The role of the cox is to safely steer and maneuver the boat whilst communicating clearly with the crew to provide feedback, motivation and encouragement. The cox is a critical crew member in any coxed boat and can be really rewarding – rowers know that a four is really a five and an eight is actually a nine. A crew literally can’t row, train or race without a cox who can make all the difference between a good outing and a bad one, or winning or losing a race!

Avon are actively seeking to recruit coxes to join us and become a valued member of our rowing community. Whether you have coxed previously at school or university or as an adult, rowed before but would like to try coxing or are a complete novice, we would love to hear from you! Training and support will be provided.
