Junior Inter-regional Regatta 2016

Saltford rowing crews take Inter-Regional championship by storm

The junior rowers based at Saltford Rowing Centre produced a set of outstanding results in the first national level event of the regatta season as the West and Wales team took 7th place in the 12 region event held in difficult wind conditions at the National Water Sport Centre at Nottingham.

Avon County Rowing Club’s Junior scullers scooped 2 medals as Bria Keen and Molly Churchman took gold and 12 points in the Girls’ J16 double scull and multi-lane debutants Charlie Cushing and Will Isom took silver in their J14 event despite a day of injury and illness.

Avon’s Olivier Sharples narrowly missed a medal but took a valuable 4th place in the J15 singles and Scarlett Roach also added welcome points to the team total with her row in the J14 girl’s single scull.

J15 Phoebe Baker-Johnson rowed in an Avon/Gloucester combination to take 6th place in their 2x event. Churchman and Keen also returned to the water with Avon team-mate Amelia Grainger to take a valuable 5th place in the Girls 8 event rowing in an Anglo-Welsh composite crew with Llandaff Rowing Club.

Monkton Combe School added a further 20 points to the team tally with a Silver medal in the Girls J16 single and a fourth place in the Boys J15 quad scull.
