Coaching at Avon County

Avon County RC has a strong team of volunteer ARA qualified coaches including two silver coaches, three bronze coaches, several RYA qualified power boat drivers, two ARA coach tutors and parents and teachers who have taken the Instructors Award (IA) following recent courses run by the Regional Coaching Commission. All coaches are screened in accordance with the ARA Procedure on Child Protection.

The club has partly developed this strong structure because of its commitment to Project Oarsome and Junior rowing and all sections of the Club have benefited. There are regular Coaches meetings - mainly for those coaches working with the Junior Squad - and coaches work with the adult squad co-ordinators.

The wide range of coaching experience means that the club can meet most coaching needs from starter days for the Project Oarsome schools held in the summer to supporting athletes at the highest level with Avon coaches having been members of Home Countries, Commonwealth and Great Britain Junior teams since 1999. The coaching team has wide experience of providing training programmes for all levels of experience and commitment. A recent development has been the agreement by the club to participate in World Class Start. Coaches from ACRC worked with medal winning crews for both the Coupe de la Jeunesse and Home Countries match in 2003.

The club is committed to Coach development and supports attendance by coaches at SCUK courses and workshops run locally by the Sports Development section of Bath and North East Somerset Council. Because of successful grant applications the club can provide financial support for coaching courses and qualifications. The club participates in WAGS coaching and training events including training days away from Saltford.  Members have recently attended both GB rowing technique days and the ARA National Coaching Conference.
